Holy Cross School was founded in 1850 by members of Holy Cross Church, from which the school takes its name. Our oldest documents record the school being led by the School Mistress, Miss Tubb. At that time, schools were not provided by the state and many were started by the National Society through members of churches. It wasn’t until the 1870 Education Act that schooling became legally required. So in some ways, Holy Cross was innovative in providing for the children of the area before many schools were founded.
OUR PRESENT AND FUTURE
With the school’s history in mind, we look to the future and aim to provide the skills, attitudes and values that will help children to grow, take their place in society and make the most of their talents in the coming years.
As a church school, we see each child as a unique individual and work to develop their mind, body and spirit. We have strong links with the church, which include a weekly assembly led by clergy and a monthly worship in Holy Cross Church.
